Retired from 20 years in the Navy, I am now a Network Engineer for a local Govt here in Washington state. Happily married to an Angel I've known for over 28 years, proud of my 4 children and my 4 grandchildren. I have two interests in my life, computers and woodworking. I now get paid to play with computers, so my free time is spent on my woodworking projects.
I host my own Web Server using an HP LX Pro Netserver with Quad Pentium Pro processors, 12 Disc Drives mirrored on a Raid 5 SCSI Card and 1.5 Gb's of Ram. The server is running SME 6.5 distro built with RedHat 7. I use ZoneEdit as my DNS server. I also administer my home Wireless Network with 3 printers, two desktop pc's, 4 laptops, a Mac (ack!!! what can I say, my oldest son wanted one) Book Pro, an XBox 360 & 2 Wii consoles.
My main Interest? Woodworking, what else is there? I have always been interested in working with my hands. I took shop classes in High School and I was an Engineering Plant Mechanic in the Navy. My real interest in Woodworking started over 17 years ago, when my wife showed me a picture of a cradle she wanted me to build for our fourth child. I had my doubts if I could. She told me, "I guess he sleeps in a cardboard box, then..." I did get that project done in time for him to spend his first months of life resting peacefully in it. My last project was an Island Deck I saw in Handy magazine in the March/April 2003 issue. My next backyard project is a pair of Pergola Entry Gates and I'm currently delving into box joints and I'm building a jig I found in Issue 8 of Shop Notes magazine to assist in building two Oak Serving Trays.
In my 20 years of sailing the 7 Seas, I have been in the Far East as well as the Middle East, and have seen many exciting and exotic Ports. But I have to say, to steal a line from an old movie, there is no place like home. Looking forward to having fun with all who come and visit my web site.
Enjoy...
